Way to REPRESENT
We sent a small crew to the CrossFit Games this year, but they made a big splash, especially on Day 1! Here are a few highlights - Jonesy had the 3rd best deadlift & burpee time; Dave & Jonesy were tied for 12th after two of the three events on day 1; John jumped off the pull up bar only to have a 95 pound bar bounce and land on his big toe; Chris & Vanessa finished (this is an accomplishment given the difficulty of the workouts), and Jonesy finished in 28th place overall! Way to represent, gang - can't wait for next year!

Petranek Fitness represents at the CrossFit Games

Today's Workout

Woo-fricken-hooo! This weekend was incredible! I don't know how else to say it. After our ~8hr trip to Santa Cruz on Thursday, we arrived to the Leys'(Dave Leys parents) house at about midnight.

Friday morning we got up and met the family for breakfast before heading out to see the town. Our first stop was CF SC Central. We showed up to a star studded event too! A lot of names and faces that you might recognize from the crossfit.com website and other CF videos, Annie Sakomoto, James from OPT, Rob Miller, AllisonNYC and even Coach and Lauren Glassman were there. Let's just say that Zeb was star struck! It was a good time to get to meet these people. They were all very warm and inviting to us (maybe bc we came with CF Dave, and please understand this, CF Dave is a superstar in the CF community). It was really cool, for me anyways, to actually meet Coach for the first time and listen to him talk. He is a very intelligent and insightful man and has a lot of good stuff to say if you are willing to listen.

Anyway, Dave and I got a quick little workout in, just a little something to bust the rust off after a week of rest leading up to the games. The rest of friday was CF Dave, Zeb and I out and about visiting the area and the beautiful beaches up here.

And then comes Saturday... We woke up at 0430 so that we could get to the games site and check-in early. The setup for the games was amazing. It was a stunning site to walk into. The thrusters/pull-ups station, the deadlift/burpees station and the massive hill that we got to run was all right there in front of us... My playground for the weekend was upon us! That is also where we met up with Burch, Chris and Vanessa. The games were upon us at last!

To be continued...

...We each competed in 3 WOD on Saturday, we started each workout 4hrs after the previous WOD
5 Rounds:
5 Deadlifts 275# (185# for women)
10 Burpees

The "Hill" run
720m up and around this massive hill

21-15-9 Rep Rounds:
Thrusters 95# (65# for women)
Pull-ups (chest to bar)

Saturday was a long and hot, but extremely exciting day! We got to watch a lot of competitors (~310) from around the world compete. There was a lot going on and a lot to cheer for. We each supported each other for each of our workouts (even when 2 of us were doing 2 different WODs at the same time in 2 different places).

And then on Sunday we each competed in the "final" WOD:
30 Clean & Jerks for time 155# (100# for women).

We watched a lot of great athletes do their thing this weekend. It was a lot of fun to see so many people get together and do what we all love doing. The atmosphere was awesome. The people were great. The community that is CrossFit showed up loud and clear this weekend. It's hard to put into words how so many people could come together to compete, but support each other the way that we did this weekend.

Finally, I want to thank Jonathan and Brenda Leys. Their hospitality this weekend in taking Zeb and I in was great and very much appreciated! They came out to the field to support us each day and had dinner ready every night when we came home. You can't ask to be treated any better than that when on the road! Thank you both, and Dave for inviting us in this weekend!
